Moonlight Cake House - Johor Bahru

Image
Moonlight Cake House is located just a few shoplots away from J Hotel . The restaurant is clean, comfortable and nicely decorated with soothing music in the background. I ordered the western breakfast set (fish balls spaghetti) which served with a drink (Coffee/ Tea/ 100 plus/ Coke/ Iced Lemon Tea/ Sprite). The fish balls spaghetti set came with a bottle of Yakult, small portion of spaghetti, 4 fish balls, salad and 2 marshmallows. The spaghetti was delicious and cooked al dente (pasta that's fully cooked but not overly soft). The fish balls were tasty too. Besides that we ordered 2 pieces of cake, the marble cheese cake and neutral mille crepe. The marble cheese cake that I used to eat consist of a topping made of cheese on a base made from hard biscuits such as graham cracker crust. However this marble cheese cake that we ordered consist of a topping made of cheese on a base made from chocolate cake. The cheese cake wasn't cheesy enough and the...

Goku Raku Ramen Midvalley Megamall - Kuala Lumpur

Image
Ramen!!! I started craving for ramen after I came back from Perth last month. Still can't get over the yummy ramen at Dosukoi! So we started Ramen hunting. :) Last weekend we decided to try out Goku Raku Ramen while we were in Midvalley. Since it was our first time here, the waiter recommended us to try the Ultimate Tonkotsu Ramen with the original soup flavour. The ramen came with char siew, flavoured egg (nitamago), spring onion, fermented bamboo shoot (menma), seaweed (nori), fragrant garlic oil, bean sprouts and leek. The eggs (nitamago) were marinated in a special sauce after it was cooked. The egg white was perfectly set while the yolk remained velvety and squishy. It was delicious and one of my favourite. The ramen was just right, not too soft and not too hard with a chewy smooth texture. The char siew was soft and melts in your mouth. The original soup was good but Dosukoi  still the best. Besides that, the roasted garlic was good. I...

Jonker 88 - Malacca

Image
Jonker 88 is located along the Jonker Street just beside the Jonker Walk World Heritage Park. My favourite cendol is the Baba Chendol - shaved ice with gula melaka, santan, cendol & beans. Whenever we visit Malacca, surely we will drop by Jonker 88 to have a bowl of Baba Chendol. Just love the gula melaka which was thick and gooey. The sweetness level of the cendol was just nice. Besides the Baba Chendol, we ordered the nyonya asam laksa, fish balls and baba rendang minced fish and prawn noodle. The nyonya asam laksa was spicy and sour, served with noodles, shredded fish, finely sliced cucumber, onion, hard boiled egg, fried beancurd and mint leaves.  It was a bit too spicy for me but I like the noodles which was very smooth and chewy. I actually have to dip the noodles into the fish ball soup to get rid of the spiciness. Yes! I can't take spicy food. I will feel my whole lips, mouth and stomach burning! The fish balls were huge and the texture ...

Kedai Kopi Chung Wah (Chicken rice ball) - Malacca

Image
We went to this Kedai Kopi Chung Wah as early as 9am on a Friday morning, 15 minutes walking distance from Fenix Inn Melaka . The restaurant was quite empty when we stepped in since it was a working day. During weekends or public holidays the queues were crazy. We can see people queuing under the hot sun just to taste this chicken rice. We ordered just a small portion of the chicken rice ball and steam chicken as we wanted to try other food in Jonker Street. The difference between the normal chicken rice and the chicken rice ball in Malacca is just the steam chicken rice is shaped into golf ball sized rather than the rice served on a plate. Both the chicken rice are served with steam chicken and cucumber. I remembered the first time I saw the chicken rice ball from far I thought it was a fishball! The chicken rice ball was soft, very delicious and flavourful. Basically I can just eat the chicken rice ball without any side dishes. The steam chicken was served with cucumbe...

Restoran Capitol Satay - Malacca

Image
Restoran Capitol Satay is one of the famous satay celup in Malacca and infact one of my "must eat food" when I travel to Malacca. It is located at Lorong Bukit Cina, 15 minutes walking distance from Fenix Inn Melaka. You won't miss this shop when passed by Lorong Bukit Cina because the queues were crazy. We waited almost 45 minutes to get a table. One thing good about eating satay celup is you don't share table with others. When your table is ready, one of the staff will put a new pot with the satay sauce in the middle of the table. Underneath it there's a stove and a gas tank to boil the sauce. The staff will then put in fresh grinded peanuts and spices into the pot and bring it to a boil. You can now dip all your favourite raw skewered food into the pot. By the way, you need to stir the sauce occasionally to avoid sedimentation of the satay sauce at the bottom of the pot. I just love the quail's egg, water spinach, pr...

J Hotel - Johor Bahru

Image
J Hotel is located at Taman Sutera Utama just within walking distance to Sutera Mall. Convenient location with lots of food outlets around. A very modern and funky hotel with colourful walls. I just love the save electricity concept at the lobby toilet. Here's how it works. You need to switch on the light when you enter the toilet as it was quite dark. Once you have done with your business, the light will automatically turned off when you open the door. So, the next person who enter the toilet will have to on the light again.   We stayed in the superior room which came with a queen size bed, a designer chair with a writing table, flat screen TV, open wardrobe, drinking water and a safe box. (Room rate: RM118 without breakfast) The hotel doesn't come with a mini fridge and facial tissue.   The hot shower was great however there's some inconsistency in the water pressure. Sometimes the water pressure was low and sometimes it's high. Besides...
