Penang - Food Hunting Trip (Day 1)

Image
After spending four days in Penang, I decided to blog about the food, as I hadn't done so in a while. We landed in Penang about late afternoon and went straight to hunt for char kueh teow. We were unable to find any good char kueh teow in Kota Kinabalu, and we have yet to find the best in Penang. We stayed at the  Sunway Hotel  in George Town because of its strategic location.  Siam Road Charcoal Char Kueh Teow is within a 12-minute walk (850m) from the hotel. When we got there on a Thursday afternoon at about 2.45pm, there was a big line outside the shop. You must stand in the queue and wait for a staff member to allocate you a seat. Since there are just two of us, we have to share a table of four with two other diners. Finally, after more than an hour, our char kueh teow was served. The stir-fried rice noodles come with cockles, bean sprouts, chives, Chinese sausages, prawns and eggs. We chose less spicy and the char kueh teow was tasty. The rice noodles taste a little ...

Shenzhen - Day 6 (Final day)

It's time to return home after a 13-day trip. We checked out of the  Shangri-La Hotel  at 9.50am and took a Didi ride to Shenzhen Airport (Fare - ¥ 69.42). Upon getting inside the car, we said hello, but the driver never acknowledged us. The car was warm, and when we asked if he could boost the ventilation for the seat behind him, he refused. Basically, it's an unpleasant 45-minute journey to the airport. Before we enter the airport, we must scan our luggage. We chose to eat brunch at the food court on the first level because our check-in counter hasn't opened yet. We had chicken rice in this  Sergeant Hainanese Chicken Rice shop. The restaurant staff was unfriendly when she took our order. I had steamed chicken drumstick rice, while my partner had roasted chicken breast rice.  I enjoyed my steamed chicken drumstick rice very much, except for the cold rice. The chicken is juicy and tasty. Chili sauce is good too. (Total bill - ¥ 112) Shenzhen Airport security check S...

Shenzhen/Guangzhou - Day 5 (Canton Fair Complex - King Glory Plaza)

We woke up at 7.30am and the weather was cloudy. We bought a 9.03am train ticket from Shenzhen to Guangzhou through trip.com (Price - ¥ 99.10 per person for the premium ticket, including the RM 14 processing fee). Shenzhen Railway Station is a short walk from the  Shangri-La Hotel . The check-in process was really fast. There's no queue, and all we have to do is scan our passports, followed by our bags. The boarding gate will open 15 minutes before departure. There's a convenience shop inside the train station and my partner bought a bottle of milk tea and a slice of strawberry bread. Boarding starts at 8.50am and there are only 16 premium seats available. My partner bought the front row, and there are just four of us in the premium seating cabin. The seats are very comfortable and it's a relaxing trip. We had our milk tea and strawberry bread, but neither tasted particularly nice to me. The milk tea and strawberry bread are both too sweet for my liking, but I enjoy the che...
