Sunway Pyramid Hotel - Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Sunway Pyramid Hotel is connected to the Sunway Pyramid Mall (as well as the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park) via an enclosed walkway, making it extremely convenient for guests to shop, dine, and enjoy entertainment without leaving the premises. However, the hotel does not have its own swimming pool, fitness center, or breakfast restaurant. Instead, guests are granted access to these facilities at the Sunway Resort Hotel, which is located just next door. This shared arrangement allows guests to enjoy premium amenities while staying in the more affordable and strategically located Sunway Pyramid Hotel.

We stayed one night in a deluxe king room, which featured a king-size bed, a wall-mounted TV with a limited selection of channels, an armchair, a coffee table, an in-room safe, a torch light, two pairs of disposable slippers, an iron, an ironing board, a wall-mounted hair dryer, complimentary Wi-Fi, two complimentary bottles of drinking water, coffee or tea-making facilities, toiletries, and self-controlled air conditioning.

Check-in was smooth and efficient. The room was dim and smaller than expected but sufficient for a short stay. The water pressure was decent, and the hot water worked well. The TV offered only a limited selection of channels, which may not suit those looking for in-room entertainment. On the plus side, the pillows were very comfortable, and the bed provided a pleasant night's rest. However, the lighting around the bathroom sink was quite dim, and there was no makeup mirror available, which could be inconvenient for some guests.

Our stay included breakfast for two at Sunset Terrace, which is served from 6am to 10.30am. I almost skipped breakfast because the bed was so comfortable, but my partner convinced me to go. So we headed down around 9.35am. To reach the restaurant, we had to walk over to the Sunway Resort Hotel and take the elevator to level 1. Despite five lifts and a staff member organizing the queue, the wait was still long. The queue extended all the way to the entrance of the breakfast area, and we only got in by 10am, with last call at 10.45am.

Unfortunately, during the wait, a group of Mediterranean guests cut the queue, which added to the frustration. The breakfast area was very crowded, and this affected our overall experience. The porridge was already finished by the time we entered, the fruit selection was limited, and the food quality was average. We left by 11am, after which I took a walk around the resort.

A key card is needed to access both the room and lift, but it won't work if the card is placed too close to your phone or electronic devices. Because of this, I had to return to the reception desk to have my card reactivated after breakfast. The latest checkout time was 12pm, and extensions were not allowed as the hotel was fully booked. The checkout process was quick and easy. Just drop the key card in the designated box. Overall, it was a pleasant stay thanks to the convenient location, but the breakfast experience was disappointing.
