The George - Penang

The George is a 5-star boutique hotel located in George Town, Penang. We normally stay at the Sunway Hotel whenever we visit Penang. However, this round, my partner surprised me by reserving The George. His uncles had been there the night before, so my partner chose to stay at the same hotel as them.

We stayed in a deluxe room that comes with two single beds, a smart TV with limited TV channels, an in-room safe, a weighing scale, a mini fridge, two complimentary bottles of drinking water, coffee or tea making facilities, an iron, an ironing board, a torchlight, two bathrobes, a hair dryer, two pairs of disposable slippers, a working desk, air conditioning with individual temperature control, complimentary Wi-Fi and a complete set of toiletries.

We requested a king-size bed at check-in; however, it was not available. The check-in procedure was quick, and the staff was really welcoming. When we checked in, they gave us a welcome drink and a cold towel. The room appears to be quite basic, but it's clean and modern-looking. They gave us a connecting room and we can hear the kids next room talking and watching TV! The bed and pillows are comfortable. Each bed comes with two pillows. However, the room's TV area is a little dim.

The toilet has a heated toilet seat with a functional program and the shower is separated from the toilet area with its own cubicle. The water pressure is good, but the hot and cold showers are inconsistent. At the same time, the shower floor tends to be slippery when wet. Besides that, they only provide one small bottle of shower gel, which is insufficient for both of us. There is no electricity plug for a hair dryer in the bathroom and there's limited plug outside. Basically, there's only two three-pin plugs available.

The internet speed is good, and you can browse YouTube on their smart TV. So far, this is the only hotel that offers comfy disposable slippers. The facilities are located on level 2 and include a fitness center, swimming pool and steam room. A key card is required to access the lift and facilities. The hotel room corridor is open-air with no air conditioning. Overall, the price does not match the condition of the room.
