Restaurant Xin Quan Fang - Ipoh, Perak

Restaurant Xin Quan Fang is well-known for serving some of Ipoh's best curry noodles. The curry is tasty, light and not too spicy. However, the lady boss is very impatient and gets frustrated easily if you ask too many questions. We were there on a Tuesday morning around 10.50am and while queuing, the lady boss informed us that they might run out of Hainan char siew, roasted pork and prawns when it's our turn. The uncles in line ahead of me asked a few more questions, and the lady boss became agitated and spoke rudely to him. The uncle then moved out of line, muttering to himself that it would be better to eat elsewhere.

Since we've eaten here before, we pretty well know what we want to order. So we told the lady boss that we wanted to get set C, minus the pig's ear. Set C comes with two bowls of curry noodles and mixed meat in a separate bowl. The curry noodle portion is small and served with bean sprouts. You may choose from three noodle types: beehoon (rice vermicelli), mee (yellow noodles) or kueh teow (rice noodles). The mixed meat bowl contains Hainan char siew, chicken, roasted pork, pig's egg, prawns and bean sprouts. We were lucky that they still had the mixed meat when it was our turn.

Set B (RM 17) : One bowl of noodles and one bowl of mixed meat (Hainan char siew, chicken, roasted pork, pig's ear, prawn and curry sauce)
Set C (RM 34) : Two bowls of noodles and one bowl of mixed meat (Hainan char siew, chicken, roasted pork, pig's ear, prawn and curry sauce)
