Kuching, Sarawak (II) - Day 2 (Kuching Town - MUSC Sarawak & United Malaya Gala Dinner)
On our second day in Kuching, we had lunch at Sung Heng Cafe, which is approximately 5 minutes drive (1.9km) from the Sheraton, Kuching. Our Grab car took around 15 minutes to arrive (Grab fare - RM 9). We ordered a bowl of red kolo mee and Sarawak laksa. The uncle was impatient and unfriendly when my partner ordered the kolo mee from him. Red kolo mee comes with fish balls, pork balls and bbq pork, also known as "char siew" in Cantonese. Although I find the noodles a bit hard, they are flavourful but I don't particularly like the soft texture of either pork or fish balls.
Sarawak laksa, on the other hand, comes with two boiled prawns, omelette slices, shredded chicken, fresh coriander and bean sprouts. However, I find the vermicelli a bit hard, but the soup is flavourful, tangy and slightly salty. Prawns are also fresh. I had a soybean drink with less sugar, which tasted mild, whereas my partner's teh c ping without sugar was sour and bitter. The total cost of the drink was RM 5.40, but the waitress did not give us the ten cent change when we paid RM 5.50.

Since we weren't quite full, we took a Grab ride from Sung Heng Cafe to Tom's for their cakes (Grab fare - RM 6). During our first trip to Kuching, we visited this cafe twice for their cakes. This trip, we had the same mango cake and a tiramisu Venezuela chocolate praline with a pot of green tea. Even after two years, the mango cake still tastes the same. The cake is moist, refreshing and filled with fresh, sweet mango. On the other hand, the tiramisu Venezuela chocolate praline is slightly sweet with a hint of sourness. The tiramisu pairs well with the chocolate praline.
Total bill - RM 63.70 (including 6% service tax)
Tea pot (green tea) - RM 9.50
Tiramisu Venezuela chocolate praline - RM 23.10

We walked back to our hotel from Tom's and then to the Grand Margherita Hotel for a meet-and-greet with Dwight Yorke from 3pm till 5pm. My partner, who supports Manchester United, paid RM 300 per person for a platinum dinner ticket that includes a meet-and-greet with Dwight Yorke. We were able to get him to sign our jersey, and we had a photo session with him. The organizer also arranged light refreshments, such as spring rolls, sandwiches, coffee and tea. However, the fried spring rolls were cold, oily and soft.

After the meet-and-greet, we headed back to our hotel and got ready for dinner. The dinner takes place at the Riverside Majestic Hotel Puteri Wing's Sarawak Chamber Ballroom, which is only a 3-minute walk (210 m) from the Sheraton, Kuching. My partner bought 20 lucky draw tickets, but we were not as lucky that night as we were 7 years ago when he won an all-expenses-paid trip to Old Trafford.
Platinum ticket holders were given a bucket hat and bracelet as door gifts, and our table was right in front of the stage. Besides that, we each receive two more complimentary lucky draw tickets. During dinner, Nelson bought beers for everyone at our table. Dinner was served at 8.30pm. There were only five main dishes and the prawns were not fresh. It's soft and mushy. We basically left the entire dish there, and none of us even touched the prawns. However, the fish is good. It's fresh and tasty. The event ended around 11pm, but we were both still hungry.

It was pouring when dinner ended. We waited for the rain to stop before walking back to our hotel. We changed, and headed to Ceylonese for supper. We were so hungry that we ordered banana leaf briyani lamb, mee mamak and tandoori chicken. The mee mamak comes with tomatoes and onions. It's quite sweet and very spicy. Besides that, I find the noodles to be a little bit hard for my liking. The tandoori chicken and briyani lamb are both delicious. When we were about to leave, we bumped into two guys who had shared the same table with us during dinner. I suppose most of us are still hungry after dinner.
