Kedai Kopi Soon Long (Yam rice) - Penang

Image
I'm not the biggest fan of yam rice but I really have to say that I enjoyed this yam rice very much. Fluffy, fragrant yam rice served with fish balls and pork balls in salted vegetable soup. Such an awesome combination! Love the salted vegetable soup and fish balls too. Combination of sweet dark soy sauce with chili was perfect for dipping my favourite fish balls. However, Chrysanthemum was too sweet for my liking. Plain water is still the best. :) Do not get confused with the shop beside it selling the exact same food! Compared to the shop next door, this shop is always pack during lunch time. Sandakan Food Journey, Day 4 - Sabah

We had our brunch at Tam Kopitiam on our last day of Sandakan food journey. Small shop but packed with hungry customers! I ordered a bowl of curry noodles while my partner ordered dry noodles with pork ribs. Curry mee was nice. Not too spicy - comes with fried fish balls, fish cakes, bean sprout, prawns, egg and topped with spring onions. On the other hand, dry noodles with pork ribs tasted so-so for me. I can taste the slight lye water (in Cantonese is called "kansui") in their noodles. (Total bill - RM 14 for 2 bowls of noodles) Tam Kopitiam Restaurant ambience Kopi o ping and kit chai ping - RM 5 Curry mee Sambal Dry noodles topped with spring onions Pork ribs Address: Tam Kopitiam Pusat Bandar Sandakan Jalan Leila, 90000 Sandakan, Sabah We stopped by Kedai Roti Gold Crown to take away some pastries so that we can have it inside the car while driving back to Kota Kinabalu. This shop serves variety

Sandakan Food Journey, Day 3 - Sabah

Third day Sandakan food journey kicked off with brunch at  Kenalanmu Steamboat Restaurant. Supposing we wanted to have our brunch at Pasar Kim Fung but most of the hawker stalls were closed except for mixed rice stalls. I'm not a big fan of mixed rice. So, we decided to drive around the area and stumbled upon this place.  This is what we ordered - kangkung belacan (water spinach stir fried with shrimp paste), salted egg prawns and steamed black grouper fish. Salted egg prawns taste fresh and nice but not superb. Same goes for the steamed black grouper fish. Fish was slightly tough, might due to overcooking. Overall food just ok. End of our meal, we were given a plate of complimentary fruits (watermelon). Price stated below excluding 6% GST Kenalanmu Steamboat Restaurant seafood price Coconut - RM 6 Kangkung belacan - RM 10 Salted egg prawns - RM 15 Steamed black grouper fish - RM 49 ( 1 Kg = RM 70) Address: Kenalanmu Steamboat R

Sandakan Food Journey, Day 2 - Sabah

We started our 2nd day in Sandakan with a bowl of fish balls soup noodles. You can choose either mee (noodles), mee hoon (vermicelli) or kueh teow (flat rice noodles). I ordered a bowl of kueh teow soup with fish balls and prawn balls. Whereas my partner just ordered a mixture of fish balls, fish cakes and dumplings soup. Their fish balls have a rough texture unlike those soft and smooth texture that I preferred. Apart from that, I couldn't taste any prawns in their prawn balls and their soy milk tasted bland as well. Overall taste just so-so for me. Total bill - RM 14 (including 2 glasses of soy milk) Restaurant Dragon (Fish ball Leong) Restaurant ambience Soy milk Fish balls, fish cake and dumplings Kueh teow soup with fish balls and prawn balls Chili sauce with vinegar Address: Restaurant Dragon (Fish ball Leong) Lot 48, Block 4, Ground Floor Prima Square, Jalan Utara (Lorong Prima 2), 90000 Sandakan, Sabah Business h
