Restoran Soon Lok - Puchong

Image
We had our early reunion dinner one week before Chinese New Year since everyone is busy with their own lives. My brother in law suggested this restaurant since charcoal roasted duck is one of their popular dish. He ordered eight main dishes - Yusheng, pork, yam basket, stir fry mushrooms with vegetables, f ish maw with sea cucumber, mushrooms and broccoli, steamed fish, roasted pork and charcoal roasted duck  with a total bill of RM 400 including a free dessert. Our first dish of the night is Yusheng or yee sang also commonly known as "lou sang" (prosperity toss), usually served on the 7th day of Chinese New Year. It is a type of Teochew-style raw fish salad consists of raw fish (salmon slices), pomelo, pepper, shredded carrots, green radish, white radish, red pickled ginger, toasted sesame seeds, peanut crumbs, variety of sauces and deep fried flour crisps in the shape of golden pillows. This dish symbolize good luck for the new year and each ingredient has its own meani...

Upside Down House Gallery - Malacca

Image
One of the tourist spot in Malacca is the upside down house. All the furniture and decors are placed upside down. You may snap photos inside the gallery and the friendly staff are always on hand to help. When we entered the gallery, the staff gave us a briefing and showed us some of the creative photos pasted on the wall. Then, we are free to roam around and take as many photos as we like. It all depends on your creativity to have the most creative photos taken. What you need to do is to snap a photo and turn it upside down to see the effect. However, I felt that the tickets are overpriced as the place is rather small with only 2 rooms. First room consist of living hall, dining hall and kitchen while second room consist of children's room, master bedroom and bathroom. All together there's 6 section inside the gallery.  Ticket price: 1. Malaysian with Mykad a) Adult - RM 15 b) Child and senior citizen - RM 10 2. Non Malaysian a) Adult - RM 20 b) Child and senior cit...

Jonker Street - Malacca

Image
So here we are at Jonker Street on a Sunday evening just before Chinese New Year. Jonker Street night market is only open from Friday to Sunday. This street is well known for its weekend market that sells everything such as street food, ice creams, drinks, snacks, souvenirs, antiques, crafts, T-shirts, sandals, toys and many more. Apart from that, there's even street performance and a live open stage singing performance by locals, keeping the street rocking until late night. As usual, it is always crowded with people. Along the street, there's handful of bars and there are a few bars with live music. A visit to Malacca would not be complete without a walk through the famous Jonker Street... Egerton by Vista Rio Melaka - Malacca

Image
Egerton by Vista Rio Melaka is within short walking distance to the famous  Restoran Capitol Satay . It is located at Jalan Temenggong, a row of double storey shop lots. You can park your car along the road and upon arrival, the owner gave us his house keys and parking coupons. We stayed for a night and we didn't have any problem looking for a parking lot along the shop lots. The place didn't give us a good impression from the outside. We were like "are you sure this is the correct place?" Then I heard my father in law spoke to my brother in law "eh... have you paid? Else let's look for another place to stay" If not mistaken I heard my brother in law answered "let's go in and check out the place first". So, nine of us (6 adults and 3 kids) stepped down from the car and went into the shop lot. It's a bit difficult for me to push open the gate. Truly an old fashioned sliding metal gates. When we opened the wooden door, we were all ...
