Bulgogi Brothers, Paradigm Mall - Petaling Jaya

Image
I'm not a big fan of Korean food but I love beef! Sorry moo moo... but you are just too good to resist. So, we decided to try Bulgogi Brothers at Paradigm Mall. The restaurant was quite empty when we walked in. Nice environment with warm lighting and K-Pop music video being played on the flat-screen TV attached to the wall. Staff are friendly and attentive. We went through the menu and ordered Bulgogi Brothers Special, which is a combination of Unyang and Gwangyang-style Bulgogi. Unyang-style Bulgogi comes with seasoned beef, hand-pressed into heart shapes. (200g - RM 46.90 for 6 pcs). Whereas Gwangyang-style Bulgogi comes with thinly sliced seasoned beef, served with mushrooms, sweet potatoes, leeks and onions. (200g - RM 46.90).  Once we have placed our order, the friendly staff served us banchan. It's refillable and it's free! Sadly, I did not enjoy any of the banchan. The only thing that I enjoyed most was the corns, sweet potatoes and edamame...

Nasi Ayam Sungai Buloh

Image
We happens to be in Sungai Buloh on a Saturday afternoon and decided to have chicken rice for our lunch. We ended up at Nasi Ayam Sungai Buloh and this restaurant only serves Hainanese chicken. We ordered chicken breast and drumstick, some side dishes such as bean sprouts, fish balls and meat balls. The chicken was good - sweet, moist and tender. I never expect the chicken breast to be so tender. We observed that the cook actually boiled the chicken for a brief moment in the soup before chopping it and served in a plate. Maybe that's the reason why the chicken is moist and tender. I'm a fish balls lover but sadly I don't really fancy the fish balls here because it's very soft. Big portion of rice and both of us were unable to finish it! The chili was a bit spicy for me and the garlic taste was very strong. I was so happy that they do served dark soy sauce but the combination with the chili wasn't perfect. Overall the food was so-so for me....

Kedai Kopi Hoh Piah - Petaling Jaya

Image
Kedai Kopi Hoh Piah is located at Sungai Way, Petaling Jaya. It is operated from a house and not many tables available. Roughly there's less than 10 tables which able to fit not more than 40 people. We ordered bak kut teh pan mee and dry pan mee. You get to choose your pan mee type, either thin, thick or hand pinched. Both of us decided to order thin pan mee. We could actually smell the aroma of the bak kut teh pan mee before it was brought to the table. First look at the bak kut teh pan mee reminds me of Japanese ramen! Both bak kut the pan mee and dry pan mee comes with anchovies, shredded black fungus, minced meat, fish balls and sweet leaf (in chinese it is called mani cai). This is the first time I tried bak kut teh pan mee and it was delicious. I love the anchovies and noodles. Anchovies were crunchy and the noodles were smooth and springy. The bak kut the soup was nice too as I prefer less herbal tasting soup. However the chili was so so and same goes for the...

One day "makan trip" - Kepong, Kuala Lumpur

Image
We were colleagues once and grew to be good friends later... Six of us - 3 ok looking bachelors and 3 pretty "aunties". :) We did crazy things together, travelled together, shared our happy and sad moments together and "cari makan" together. However due to our hectic lifestyles, it's quite difficult to get everyone together. Only 5 of us managed to turn up this time. We decided to make it a one day "makan trip" in Kepong. Our first stop of the day was "Ah Yee" curry mee located at Kepong Baru. We ordered curry noddles and chee cheung fun (steamed flat rice noodles). You get to choose your noodles and majority of us preferred the combination of bee hoon (rice vermicelli) and mee (thin yellow noodles). Curry mee comes with bean sprouts, long beans, cockles, fried beancurd sheets, fried pig skin and slices of bbq pork. The curry is light, diluted and less spicy. Both the curry mee and curry chee cheung fun shared the same curry soup. Du...
