Sin Kee Bah Kut Teh - Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

There's a few highly recommended bak kut the in Sabah and one of it is Sin Kee Bah Kut Teh located in the busy street of Gaya. I grew up in Klang and when you mentioned Klang, people tend to relate to Klang bak kut teh. No doubt the best place for bak kut teh is still in Klang and my favourite shop is still Restoran Teluk Pulai (Clay Pot) Ba Kut Teh. You can read more about it here

What I like about Sin Kee Bah Kut Teh is their dry bak kut teh. This dish comes with slices of pork (with or without fat), lady fingers, dry cuttlefish, onions and dry chili. It is very flavourful and tasty. The dried chili and dried cuttlefish really enhance the taste further. I have tried their personal claypot bak kut teh but the taste was just so-so for me. Their claypot version comes with only soup and meat. The bak kut teh soup is light and leaves a slight lingering aftertaste of liquorice (hint of bitterness) which I don't really fancy.

You may choose your preferred cut meat such as pork with or without fat, pig's tail, intestine, pig's maw or spare ribs. Sadly, most of the bak kut the shop here doesn't serve small bones (direct translation from hokkien - "suay kut") The meat is really tender just like chicken drumsticks!

Other than dry and soup version of bak kut teh, they served side dishes such as stewed trotter, braised chicken feet, herbal pig kidney soup, fish meat balls, meat balls, oyster sauce vegetables and beancurd. Fast service and the restaurant is always pack with people.
