Tawau/Semporna - Day 2 (Semporna Town - Pom Pom Island Resort)

I didn't sleep well last night as I can hear guests coming in and out from the sea container. Apart from that, wee hours in the morning I can hear the monotonous noise of the vessel's engine since our sea container is facing the harbour. Just like a zombie I walked to Cham Chuan Kee Restaurant for brunch. This restaurant is just 8 minutes walking distance (650m) from Semporna Seaview Hotel. We ordered seafood porridge, "mee hoon goreng" (fried vermicelli), "roti butter" (butter toast) and a glass of "teh ping" (iced milk tea).

My partner loves their "roti butter". Whereas for me, I still prefer the "roti kahwin" from Kedai Kopi Sin Yoon Loong at Ipoh. I love when the toast has a little crunch but is slightly moist within. However, their bread is thick and the crust not being crispy enough. Seafood porridge on the other hand comes with prawns, squid and sliced fish. It tastes good but porridge texture is grainy. I prefer a smooth, starchy and silky porridge texture. My partner had "mee hoon goreng" (fried vermicelli) and turned out it's a bit hard for my liking. In terms of taste it's good. When we're about to leave the restaurant, a bunch of kids came out of nowhere and took our leftover bread. One of the kid even requested us to buy them some juice. Before that, another kid almost snatch away our mineral water!

Total bill: RM 27.50

We walked back to our hotel and check out at 11.40am. We took a Grab car to Jetty Pelancongan Bangau Bangau (Grab fare - RM 4), 8 minutes drive (1.7km) from Semporna Seaview Hotel. We reached the jetty around 12pm and the boat depart as soon as we arrived since we're the only guest going to Pom Pom Island Resort that day. There's 5 other people including the boat captain. It was a smooth ride and 50 minutes later we arrived at Pom Pom Island Resort. One of the resort staff escorted us to the restaurant for lunch. They served us a welcome drink as well. There's only 4 guests in the resort including us and we're the only guest staying in the water villa.

Lunch starts from 12pm to 2pm. They served us a plate of rice with seven dishes including soup and fruits. Our lunch menu of the day - fish Thai style sauce, beef with black pepper sauce, omelette, stir fried vegetables, mixed seafood with dry chili, egg soup with vegetable and a plate of local fruits. The food was served cold except for the egg soup with vegetable. Overall we're not really impressed by the food.

After lunch, one of the resort staff gave us a quick briefing and our room key. Our chalet is built on the water and it's quite a distance away from the restaurant. While walking towards the restaurant from our chalet for tea break, we spotted a huge green sea turtle swimming alone in the bright turquoise water. Great sighting indeed. Tea break starts from 4pm to 5pm. They served fried donut which is crunchy on the outside but not fluffy enough on the inside. I kinda like their "Kopi O" (black coffee) which is very thick. It reminds me of my mom's and aunt's homemade black coffee using cloth coffee filters.

After tea break we walked around the resort. You better watch out for sand flies and mosquitoes because there're everywhere! My partner went for a quick snorkeling while I waited for the sunset at 5.55pm but the weather was too cloudy. We had our dinner at 7pm. They served us rice with grilled tuna, old cucumber soup, chicken with buttermilk, stir fried vegetables, mixed seafood with stir fried leek, pudding and a plate of local fruits. Well, I guess the food taste better if you do not set any expectation. We went back to our chalet after dinner and it started to rain heavily. Since I didn't get a good night sleep last night, I felt a bit off and decided to call it a day.
