Perth - Day 11(Dragon Palace - The Coffee Club - Jom Kopitiam)

Dragon Palace is Jason's favourite dim sum place and five years later we're here again. The restaurant is quite busy on a Sunday afternoon and we have to wait around 10 minutes for a table. We ordered chicken feet, king prawn siew mai, prawn dumplings, BBQ pork buns, deep fried prawn dumpling with mayonnaise, deep fried crispy pastry stuffed with prawn, deep fried yam dumplings, steamed chicken with spicy sauce, sesame balls, chili pepper squid tentacle, baked BBQ pork puff, century egg congee and egg tart. I like their deep fried crispy pastry stuffed with prawn, century egg congee and chili pepper squid tentacle. Thanks Leo for the lovely lunch.

Total bill - $ 184.50

After lunch, we went window shopping at Cockburn Gateway Shopping Centre. I bought a cup of peach and mango iced tea frappe from The Coffee Club and it's really refreshing without being too sweet.

We had our dinner at Jom Kopitiam located at William Street. This restaurant is famous for their chili crab. We ordered two types of crab dishes - chili crab and fiery black pepper crab. Besides that, we ordered chicken satay (marinated chicken grilled on bamboo skewers), four heavenly king of veggies, deep fried squid, butter fried beef cubes with mushrooms, BBQ tiger prawns, prawn paste fried chicken and superior hot pot with fish and yam. The restaurant gave us a complimentary starter (fried spring rolls) and dessert (snow fungus soup).

We're quite disappointed with their crab dishes. The meat is soft and has a poor texture. After we give feedback to their staff regarding the quality of their crabs, they replaced the fiery black pepper crab for us. Slightly better in texture but still not firm enough. Basically no point for them to cook us another replacement crab dish if all their crab meat texture is soft.

Among all the dishes, my favourite is the superior hot pot with fish and yam. The hot pot comes with fish fillet, fish heads, napa cabbage, yam, spring onion, herbs (angelica sinensis - Dang gui) and salted plum topped with dried seaweed, fried beancurd and enoki mushroom. Soup is umami-rich and flavourful on its own. Apart from that I enjoyed their BBQ tiger prawns. It's big, succulent and fresh. I tried the Tsingtao beer which has a well-balance taste, easy to drink and smooth with a hint of bitter aftertaste.

Total bill - $ 508.90
