Taiwan - Day 10 (Taoyuan)

We checked out from Chang Gung Hostel at 12pm and left our luggage at Alan's factory. His mum brought us for lunch at this ramen restaurant. I have no idea what ramen flavour that I order because the menu is all in Chinese language. I assumed my partner had the original Tonkotsu ramen while I had Tonkotsu ramen with black garlic as there's a strong garlic aftertaste. Our ramen comes with pork slices, green negi, black fungus, bean sprouts and dried seaweed. Ramen texture is just perfect for me.

Alan's mum walked us to Global Mall and along the way she bought us a cup of milk tea with grass jelly from Coco. The milk tea is mild in taste and not too sweet.

We had our tea break at Family Mart. My partner bought his favourite sausages and a packet of Ben's favourite milk tea. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting ice cream in each country. So I had this wild strawberry ice cream from Shapetime fruit and it's really good! Not too sweet and the ice cream comes with chunky bits of strawberry. It's creamy, rich and flavourful.

Total bill - NT$ 108

We walked back to Alan's factory and he brought us to this shaved ice shop just 1 minute walking distance (50m) from Chang Gung Hostel. Instead of dining in, we decided to take away. There's variety of toppings for you to choose from. We choose five toppings - black pearls, jelly, black sesame, tangyuan with black sesame fillings and pudding. Our shaved ice comes with brown sugar syrup which is not too sweet. We had it with black sesame mochi bought by Alan's mum earlier. It's really good. Mochi is soft and chewy, filled with peanut paste.

Alan dropped us at MRT Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Station and his mum insisted to accompany us to the airport via the express train. She is very hospitable and we are extremely thankful for their kind hospitality. We took the express train at 5.07pm (MRT fare - NT$ 50 per person) from Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Station (A8) to Airport Terminal 1 (A12). The journey took approximately 13 minutes and after sending us to the airport we bid farewell to Alan's mum.

You can apply for a tax refund at the airport. Proceed to the tax refund kiosk before you go to the tax refund cash counter. Since our flight departs at 8.50pm, we have plenty of time to shop at the airport. We went through a 25 minutes immigration process and by 7.25pm we are walking towards our departure gate.

While walking towards our departure gate, we saw this Homee Kitchen and decided to have our dinner there. The restaurant was packed but luckily we found a place to sit. I had braised beef noodles soup set while my partner had braised pork chop rice set. I kinda like their beef noodle soup. Beef broth is flavourful and noodles texture is just right for me. Beef is tender but comes with tendons as well. My partner loves his rice and cabbages. Our set comes with mango pudding but it's a bit too sour for my liking. He bought a can of Italian oranges sparkling drinks but turned out bitter.

Note: NT$ 1 = RM 0.14

Our flight departs on time at 8.50pm. The journey back to Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) took approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes. Surprisingly the flight is very empty. In-flight meal is served around 9.20pm and I had fried vermicelli with chicken. Vermicelli is salty and chicken taste is very strong. Overall my food doesn't taste good. Luckily we had our dinner earlier. Basically that wraps up our 10-day Taiwan trip...
