Kuching, Sarawak - Day 2 (Kuching Town)

One of the main reasons I love to travel is because there's always something new to taste. Besides that, I love taking pictures of food and scenery. It's like freezing memories from a journey that you can look back on and enjoy for years. The food hunting trip continued on the second day despite my partner still feeling under the weather. Just before we left the hotel for brunch, we requested for a room make up. We decided to walk to Hon Hin Cafe since it's just 9 minutes walking distance (650m) from Hilton, Kuching. We were quite disappointed because the shop is closed. As an alternative, we went and look for Feast and Furious which's just 80m away from Hon Hin Cafe but we couldn't find the shop! Ended up we walked to Song Kheng Hai Hawker Centre but only few stalls were open and we have no idea what to eat in that hawker centre.

We continued to explore on foot and stumbled upon this Chuan Xi Cafe. I was too tired to walk anymore especially when the weather was so hot. So I told my partner let's just eat chicken rice. I ordered steamed drumstick chicken rice while my partner ordered roasted chicken. Overall it's good. Chicken is cooked perfectly and it's juicy. Besides that, chicken rice is fluffy and flavourful. Since Chuan Xi Cafe is just 9 minutes walking distance (650m) from Hilton, Kuching, we decided to walk back to our hotel.

Total bill - RM 17.70 (Chicken rice - RM 13 & drinks - RM 4.70)

We were expecting a clean and organized room when we're back from our brunch but sadly, they have yet to make up our room. So we told them to do it later since my partner wanted to take a rest. Instead of hanging around the hotel room I decided to check out Kuching Waterfront alone since it's just within walking distance from the hotel.

Chinese History Museum is just 6 minutes walking distance (450m) from Hilton, Kuching. Entrance to the museum is free of charge. However, taking photos with camera is not allowed. You can only take photos with your camera phones! It doesn't make any sense to me but in order not to put the staff in a difficult situation I just oblige. It's a small museum and it's about the history of the Chinese community in Sarawak.

There's a children's playground right in front of the Chinese History Museum. I walked along the Kuching Waterfront and saw a river taxi. It's also known as "perahu tambang" which ferry the local folks to get across the Sarawak river. Apart from that, there's Sarawak traditional boat cruise (Price: adult - RM 19 / child - RM 9) and Signature Sunset Cruise (Price: adult - RM 65 / child - RM 32). Luckily the weather was kind for me to cross the Darul Hana Bridge. You can get a nice view of Kuching city, waterfront and Sarawak river from the bridge.

I felt so thirsty and glad that I found this IG Gula Apong Ice Cream stall nearby Darul Hana Bridge. I decided to try their gula apong ice cream with peanuts. I ordered one small gula apong ice cream comes with one free topping. You can either choose oreo, nestum, peanut or cornflakes. They only have gula apong milk tea ice cream. It's slightly creamier and taste so much better than RG Ais Krim Bergula Apong that I had yesterday at the open air market. It's a great combination of milk tea ice cream with gula apong and peanuts. However, the gula apong taste less salty compared to RG Ais Krim Bergula Apong. Somehow I still prefer my gula apong to be saltier.

Still feeling thirsty, I decided to look for a place to sit and have a cold drink. So I walked past India Street Pedestrian Mall before reaching Plaza Merdeka Shopping Centre. I saw this shop ROTM selling dragon fruit avocado smoothies and decided to give it a try. Not too sweet and first sip I can taste the creamy smooth avocado. After awhile, I can only taste the dragon fruit flavour.

On the way back to our hotel, I walked past Old Court House, a historical courthouse in Kuching which is now a tourism complex. There's café and restaurants within the Old Court House. The tourist information centre is also located inside the Old Court House.

We decided to have early dinner and took a Grab ride to See Good Food Restaurant. (Grab fare - RM 4). Before we went out for dinner, we requested for room make up again. Glad that this time they fulfilled our request. The restaurant was quite empty when we reached there around 5.50pm. We ordered asam fish, steamed prawns with egg and claypot bean curd with seafood. Both fish and prawns are fresh. However their asam fish taste a bit too sour for my liking. Apart from that, I felt that too much salt was added in the steamed egg and gravy for the claypot bean curd with seafood. Another big turn off for me was their red chili that has gone bad. After dinner we took a Grab ride back to our hotel. (Grab fare - RM 4)

Total bill - RM 164 (including 2 coconut pandan drink)
