Labuan - Day 1

Labuan is a duty free Island just 1.5 hours ferry ride from Menumbok Ferry Terminal. Distance from Kota Kinabalu Airport to Menumbok Ferry Terminal via car is approximately 2 hours 40 minutes. As usual, another impromptu trip and this time to Labuan! We departed from home before 9am and stopped for breakfast at this Liang Yung Hwa Restaurant in Papar. We had noodles with BBQ pork and roasted pork. To me, the food tasted average and I must say this... the flies were so annoying! (Total bill - RM 24)

On the way to Menumbok Ferry Terminal, we dropped by Beaufort and had our lunch at Kedai Makan dan Minum Foh Chuan. We decided to order just one plate of Beaufort noodles since both of us were still full. This stir fried Beaufort noodles comes with vegetables and slices of pork covered in thick gravy. I'm not a big fan of green vegetables and very selective when it comes to vegetables but I kinda like their choy sum. It's fresh, sweet and crunchy.

We reached Menumbok Ferry Terminal around 1.50pm, collected our documents from Labuan Point Enterprise Sdn Bhd before we proceed to the ferry boarding gate. One day earlier my partner made an online booking and payment to this company. Bare in mind that there's limited spaces for drive-up vehicles on each sailing. It's better that you purchase your return ferry ticket for vehicles in advance.

Charges for car with one passenger from Menumbok Ferry Terminal to Labuan is RM40 and additional passenger is RM2.50 each. Apart from that, there's an additional charges of RM14 for your vehicle. It's easier to move around in the small island if you have your own transportation. We took the 2.30pm ferry and arrived Labuan Island around 4pm. There's a small food kiosk inside the ferry selling cup noodles, snacks, can drinks and bottled water.

Hello Labuan

Upon arrival we checked in to Dorsett Grand Labuan and later had our dinner at Restaurant Pulau Labuan. This restaurant is just 4 minutes drive from our hotel. We ordered 2 dishes - coconut prawns and steamed fish. Prawns were fresh but there's a strange taste. On the other hand, both of us don't really enjoy the steamed fish because the fish was not very fresh. I might say the only food that we enjoyed the most was the coconut pudding (Price RM13). It's light, refreshing and will surely satisfy your sweet tooth.
