Kedai Kopi Jia Siang - Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

One of the highly recommended pork noodles or "sang yuk mien" by the local people in Sabah is Kedai Kopi Jia Siang. "Sang yuk mien" means raw pork noodles in Hakka but don't worry they don't serve raw pork. It's cooked perfectly. There's dry and soup version served with pork slices, pork balls, liver or other internal organs. You can choose your type of noodles - mee (egg noodles), mee hoon (vermicelli) or kueh teow (flat rice noodles).

What I love about this shop is their pork slices. The meat is lean and it's really tender. Best eaten together with their spicy chili sauce. Their kon lou mee or dry noodles turned out to be really dark in colour as they put lots of dark soy sauce. Usually I will dilute the dark soy sauce noodles with their soup. I like it better that way. However, I can taste the slight lye water flavour in their noodles. (There's a slight bitter after taste in my mouth) In Hakka or Cantonese lye water is called "kansui".

This shop is always full of people and it's open whole day for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even supper! Bear in mind that it's quite difficult to find a parking space at Lintas Plaza during peak hours (lunch & dinner time).
