Kuala Terengganu -> Tasik Kenyir -> Gua Musang -> Ipoh - Food Hunting Trip (Day VI)

We woke up at 6am and took the earliest ferry back to Kuala Terengganu. The ferry depart at 7am from Redang Island, stopped by Long Beach to pick up some passengers and reached Shahbandar Jetty at 8.40am. We went and collect our car and was glad that it's still there at the open air carpark.

Hello Kuala Terengganu

We made our way to Chinatown again for breakfast. This time we had ba kut teh at Restoran Siang Ping. We ordered 2 portions of meat, a plate of "yau char kwai" (golden-brown deep fried dough), a plate of yam rice, a plate of rice, a glass of icy cold water and herbal tea. Total meal cost RM25. The bak kut teh is light and leaves a slight lingering aftertaste of liquorice.

After our heavy breakfast, we continued our journey to Ipoh, Perak. Along the way we stopped by Lake Kenyir, the biggest manufactured (man-made) lake in Southeast Asia. Beautiful view of big green lake and great place to chill.

We had our late lunch at Gua Musang, Kelantan. Frankly, we have no idea what to eat and stumbled upon this Restoran Nasi Ayam. Turned out the chicken rice was pretty good. The chicken was tender and juicy. Besides that, I just love the combination of chili sauce with the dark soy sauce. (Total meal: RM9.80 - 2 sets of chicken rice, a glass of cold water and a can of 100 plus)

We reached Ipoh around 5pm and checked in Lucky Hotel. I can't wait to eat all my favourite food in Ipoh!!! What is good in Ipoh? None other than the famous "nga choy kai" (bean sprouts chicken).

Lou Wong is known for its chicken rice and hor fun. The chicken was tender, sweet and juicy. Flavoured with soy sauce, garlic oil and garnished with sliced spring onion and red chili. The hor fun is slippery smooth which glides down the throat easily. The fish balls taste good. Overall the food here is very tasty. (Total meal excluding drink - RM20.50)

After dinner we stopped by Medan Selera Dato Tahwil Azar to try out the popiah. You can order either wet or fried popiah. We ordered both! Both the popiah has the same filling - bean sprouts, yambean, carrot, crushed prawn fritters, taukua and fried shallots. The only difference is the popiah skin. If you ordered the wet popiah, you get to taste the fresh and soft popiah skin. Whereas for the fried version, you get to taste the crunchy popiah skin. I preferred the fried popiah. Topped with the homemade sweet sauce and fried shallots... hmmnn... delicious.

Time for dessert!!! We went to Thong Sui Kai (sweet broth street) near SRJK (C) Sam Tet. The street is famous for thong sui and many hawker stalls are located along the street. We ordered a bowl of mix fruit ice (in cantonese - chap kor). This indeed one of my favourite dessert in Ipoh. Shaved ice topped with assorted fruits such as jack fruits, watermelons, longan, grapes, jelly, grass jelly, pear, nata de coco, pineapple, mango, peanuts and a scoop of ice cream.
