Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre - Sandakan, Sabah

Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre is situated in Northern Borneo, around 5 hours 30 minutes drive from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The best time to see orangutan is during the feeding time at 10am and 3pm by rangers. They are fed with cabbages, bananas, carrots and other vegetables. These orangutan are living wild in the reserve and it can never be guaranteed that they will come for the feed. We only managed to see two orangutans during the feeding time. However, there's a lot of monkeys trying to steal the food from the orangutan.

Besides that, visitors also have the opportunity to observe some of the adolescent orangutan currently on their final stage of rehabilitation at the outdoor nursery. The young orangutans are train on the ropes and trees as they begin transitioning back into the wild.

Lockers available (free of charge) for visitors to keep their handbags or backpack. No bags or water bottles allowed because the monkeys are likely to try to snatch it from you! While we were heading towards the feeding platform, there's a troupe of monkeys sitting on either side of the railing. Initially we were quite scared to walk past them but we have no choice since this is the only road heading to the feeding platform. Rangers were nowhere to be seen. So, all of us walked slowly and quietly avoiding direct eye contact with the monkeys. Luckily none of the monkeys are ferocious.
