Holiday Inn Express - Kuala Lumpur

The Holiday Inn Express Kuala Lumpur is located in Jalan Raja Chulan, just 16 minutes walk (1.2km) from Suria KLCC shopping mall or 5 minutes walk (500m) from Changkat Bukit Bintang. Changkat street is famous for bars, nightclubs, live music and restaurants.

The Holiday Inn Express Kuala Lumpur reception counter is at level 1, and a key card is required for access to the guest room floor. Upon check-in, we were given a shower cap, two vanity kits, two toothbrushes and two pairs of disposable slippers at the reception counter. We stayed three nights in a standard room, which comes with a queen-size bed, a wall-mounted TV with limited channels, a couch, air conditioning with individual temperature control, two complimentary bottles of drinking water, coffee or tea making facilities, an in-room safe, a mini fridge, a working desk, complimentary Wi-Fi, a wall-mounted hair dryer, a wall-mounted shower gel and hand soap.

The room is modern, bright, clean and comfortable. I like the window concept because I can see the city lights from my bed. Aside from that, the window has blackout shades that can be closed to keep the early sun out. The bed is very comfy and comes with four pillows with a choice of soft or firm pillows. The bathroom door does not have a lock but I like how the shower and toilet share a door. Besides that, bathroom tiles are nice and not slippery. However, the bathroom basin is low and the water pressure is weak. Only the shower pressure is adequate and the water is hot enough.

The fitness center is located at level 2, is available 24 hours a day and is accessible with your room key card. Next to the fitness center is the laundry room. Tokens for self-launderette is available for purchase at the reception counter at level 1.

Our stay comes with a buffet breakfast for two people. You can choose between express start or grab & go, which includes a beverage, muffin and fresh fruit. Breakfast starts from 6.30am to 10.30am. We skipped breakfast on day 1 because we were too sleepy to get out of bed. I went down for breakfast on day 2 around 9.30am and the breakfast area was packed. Breakfast buffet refills were slow, resulting in trays of empty food.

There's no egg station. They served nasi lemak, fried vermicelli, soup noodles, salad, cereals, bread, pastries, chilled juice and coffee. Their fried vermicelli tastes bland but glad that the nasi lemak is fluffy and nice. The hash brown is crispy but oily. Aside from that, the fish ball is tasty although a little salty for my taste. There's also a drink machine that serves chocolate drinks, but they're just too sweet for me. Overall it's a simple buffet breakfast with no meat.
