Nexus Resort & Spa Karambunai - Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

It's time for another short getaway and here we are at Nexus Resort & Spa Karambunai. They made us feel so welcomed with their smile and friendly gesture. Every corner when we bumped into them, they will greet us with the warmest smile.

We stayed two nights in a Panorama Deluxe room comes with a king size bed, in room safe, study table, wall mounted LCD TV (local channels, BBC, Discovery, Disney, Star Sports, FOX, HBO, Star World, Australian Network, MTV, Phoenix, NHK and KBS World), in room slippers, bathrobe, iron & ironing board, hairdryer, separated hot/cold shower and bathtub, self controlled air conditioning, minibar with tea & coffee making facilities, 2 bottles of drinking water, mini fridge and toiletries.

Spacious room with balcony facing the botanical garden. However, hotel and room looks a bit old and our bed blanket smells musty too. Spacious bathroom with good water pressure but inconsistency in the hot water flow and forceful massage due to the fixed pattern in the shower head spray makes showering less enjoyable. Bathroom looks clean but there's some old stain spotted on the bathtub and bathroom wall tiles.

Apart from that, no free wifi access in the room. Free wifi only available in the hotel lobby and dining area. There's 2 lifts and both of them looks old with musty smell. We found out that our in room safe was not working at night. So, we called the hotel staff and they get it fixed immediately, followed by a phone call after that. We were very impressed with their prompt service in our hour of need.

Swimming pool is open from 7am to 8pm daily. There is no life guard on duty. Snacks and drinks are offered from 8am to 7pm at the Splashes pool bar. Swimming pool water was warm and nice but wasn't really clean as I saw foreign objects floating in the pool. There's a jacuzzi tub beside the swimming pool but it's not working and empty. Hotel is a bit rundown. Overall wasn't a really pleasant stay.

(Room rate - RM198 nett per night, minimum 2 nights stay with breakfast for 2 adults and 2 children below 12 years old. Applicable to all Malaysians and permanent residents only)
