Cameron Highlands - Day 1 (Green View Garden - Cameron Fair Mall - Cameron Centrum - Centrum Market)

Cameron Highlands has never been on my list of places to revisit. My last visit was fifteen years ago, before I even started blogging! Except for the Boh Tea Plantation, I can't recall much about what we did, what we ate, or which places of interest we visited. This time, my partner was keen to return because it had been a long time since our last visit.

We rented a car from Trevo and drove up from Ipoh. We departed at 1.15pm, and the journey to Zenith Hotel took approximately two hours and thirty minutes. Along the way, we stopped at Green View Garden for a 30-minute toilet break. The place turned out to be more than just a rest stop. It has a garden, a mini petting zoo, a strawberry farm, and a cafe. There's no entrance fee, so it's a nice spot to take a short break. We bought a fresh strawberry milkshake, which was slightly sweet with a hint of sourness.

After checking in at Zenith Hotel, we walked to Bake An Cafe. My partner went for the nasi lemak with chicken berempah, while I wanted something lighter and chose chicken pie. The pie arrived cold, so I asked for it to be warmed up. It was tasty, but the crust was soft, and there wasn't much filling - mostly just soft pie crust. The nasi lemak rice was fluffy and flavourful. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Besides that, the anchovies were crunchy, and the sambal had a mild kick. Overall, it was a decent late afternoon snack, nothing spectacular, but enough to keep us going.

Cameron Fair Mall is located just across from Bake An Cafe. We decided to take a quick stroll. Many of the shop lots were empty, giving the mall a rather deserted feel.

For dinner, we headed to OK Tuck Restaurant in Brinchang, which is a 12-minute drive (5.8km) from the Zenith Hotel. My partner ordered sweet potato leaves stir-fried with garlic, salted egg squid, and sweet and sour pork ribs. The sweet potato leaves were acceptable, and the sweet and sour pork ribs were tasty, though there wasn't much lean meat. As for the squid, it was a bit rubbery, and we couldn't finish it. On the plus side, the service was impressively fast almost immediately after we placed our order.

(Total bill - RM 64)

After dinner, we walked to Cameron Centrum, just an 8-minute walk (500m) from OK Tuck Restaurant. Cameron Centrum is an outdoor retail arcade in Brinchang. It has a supermarket, a night market with local food stalls, beverage outlets, food and entertainment for children. We saw a durian stall in Centrum Market and couldn't resist eating the musang king for RM40/kg. When the owner opens the durian, there are only four durian pulps. The first two were creamy and rich, but the last two were just okay.

We made a quick stop at Family Mart, where we picked up a classic tuna sandwich, a milk strawberry pudding frappe, and a strawberry sofuto. The strawberry sofuto was really good. It's soft and creamy. The frappe was nice too. It tasted exactly like what we had in Tokyo previously. Apart from that, the tuna sandwich was good too and best eaten when it's cold.

I decided to grab a cup of corn from Baba Foodie before we left Cameron Centrum. I requested just salt and butter, skipping the condensed milk. Sadly, the corn was disappointing because they didn't remove the hard tip caps, making it tough and difficult to chew. I much prefer the corn from McDonald's.

The nighttime temperature was 19℃, making it comfortable enough to wear shorts and a jacket. During the day, it wasn't particularly cold. Just a refreshing breeze that allows you to go without a jacket.
